Abstract Brakes are one of the most important parts of the car, because the safety of passengers in the car depends on the efficiency of the brake system and also its important role in preserving persons and construction, where the brake liner temperature can reach 300 ° C during frequent brake use in vehicles. In this research, the duplex drum brake system was modified by changing the lining form and thus changing the friction area in the brake lining of the Suzuki Swift Model 2000 to improve the performance of the brake system. Thus, changing the friction area in the brake lining to study the performance of the brake system at different operating factors. The study studies the performance of duplex drum brake at a different friction area, and this was done by making 4 mm slots inside the surface of the brake lining at different operating factors, Laboratory results showed that the increasing the brake oil pressure to the values of 5, 10 and 15 bar respectively at a sliding speed of 50 rpm, the final temperature of the duplex drum system decreases by 8%, 3.2%, 3.4%, 11.2%, 8.5% and 11.7%, for the three-slots drum brake system according to the final temperature value of the drum brake without slots. All results are used in this research to design a unit of study with an entrance course for cars for third year students at the Faculty of Technology and Education - Helwan University. |
