Abstract This research is focused on the study of the latest horizontal wells drilled in Belayiem Field in Gulf of Suez, discussion of different operational problems associated while drilling horizontal wells, introduction of horizontal wells landing challenge in this field starting from drilling pilot hole till finally introduction of reservoir mapping while drilling tool that was used for the first time in Egypt for landing top of unconformable surface in Nukhul Formation that results in avoiding drilling pilot hole and reducing the total well cost and finally introduction design of optimum horizontal well in the future. The positive results of identifying the optimum horizontal well design are saving an average of 1.8 million $/well, the early production of the wells and encouragement of drilling more horizontal wells for optimum field development. |
