Abstract HTN the ‘silent killer’, is the leading cause of death and DALY worldwide. In Egypt, it constitute the main cause of mortality. It is the most important modifiable risk factor for CVD, stroke, renal diseases and retinopathy. The aim of work: to assess the Health promoting behaviors among hypertensive outpatients attending Cardiovascular Department in Mansoura Specialized Medical Hospital, Mansoura, Dakahlia Governorate. Research Plan: This hospital cross-section study included 250 hypertensive patients were recruited from attendants of the outpatient clinic of Cardiovascular Department in MSH. Inclusion criteria for the study were hypertensive outpatients attending the above mentioned hospital diagnosed with HTN of at least one year duration, of both sexes aged between 20-60 years, fully conscious and accepted to participate in the study. Patients with secondary HTN were excluded from the study. Socio-demographic and clinical data were collected. The HPBs was measured by the Arabic version of Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP II). Results: The reported positive behaviors were 25.2%, 32.4%, 16.4%, 45.6% and 34.8% for life style, health responsibility, physical activity, nutrition and stress management; respectively. Conclusion: The prevalence of positive health promoting behavior is low among hypertensive patients. Recommendations: Health education and counseling are necessary for all hypertensive patients who need to control their BP. |
