Abstract Functional dysphonia (FD) is a group of voice disorders that occur in the absence of structural or neurological laryngeal diseases. FD is related to vocal behavior, leading to negative habits and inadequate voice use. Minor tissue changes, such as vocal fold nodules, that are direct results of vocal misuse or trauma to vocal folds by phonatory behavior can also be considered in the FD group. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of semi-occluded vocal tract exercises versus accent method in treatment of functional dysphonia in adults. This study was conducted on 40 patients of both sexes attending Phoniatric Unit in Alexandria Main University Hospital complaining of dysphonia. All patients were adults>18years old, complaining of functional dysphonia. The study showed effectiveness of SOVT exercise using a silicone tube immerged in water than accent method in treatment of functional dysphonia in adults. The recommendations entail long time follow up assessments to show the long term effect of this type of voice therapy (SOVTE). |
