Abstract This prospective study aimed to compare between temporalis fascia graft and fascia lata graft in myringoplasty for patients with tubo-tympanic CSOM with dry large perforation regarding simplicity of the procedure and its duration, post-operative graft uptake and improvement in hearing to decide the better graft for closure of tympanic membrane perforation. It was carried out on 60 patients from out-patient clinic of ORL department at Menoufia University Hospital . Patients were assessed preoperatively by history as onset, course, duration, last attack, odour and color of otorrhea, hearing loss, tinnitus and other complains and history of previous surgery or other system affection. Patients were examined by otoscope and endoscope to assess Perforation site and size, ossicular chain, and middle ear mucosa. Audiological investigations as pure tone audiometry, tympanometry, speech audiometry and acoustic reflex were documented to identify type of hearing loss. All the patients were having pure conductive hearing loss. Patients were divided to 2 groups (A & B). group A (30 cases) underwent myringoplasty with temporalis fascia graft, while group B (30 cases) underwent myringoplasty with fascia lata graft. Thereafter, all patients were called for regular follow up once weekly for one month and every month for 3months then after 6 months. |
