Abstract Summary This study was done to compare between intraperitoneal and transversus abdominis plane block by bupivacaine-magnesium sulfate for pain relief after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. This study was approved by the Ethical Committee and was carried on patients who admitted to Tanta University Hospital in general surgery department for laparoscopic cholecystectomy. An informed written consent was obtained from the patients. The inclusion criteria included sixty patients, ASA physical status I &II, age equal 18-60 years old, scheduled to undergo elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy surgery, we excluded patients of BMI ≥35, allergy to the given drugs, heart block or renal failure, patients with peritoneal drain or peritoneal wash after surgery, chronic alcoholism, history of a major psychiatric disorder, chronic pain syndrome and chronic pain medications, previous abdominal surgery, hypomagnesaemia or hypomagnesaemia Patients were divided into 2 equal groups: group I: Intraperitoneal instillation of total volume 30 ml [15 ml bupivacaine %0.5(75mg) plus 2.5ml magnesium sulfate (250 mg) plus 12.5 normal saline]. group II : Ultrasound guided subcostal transversus abdominis plane block will be performed by using total volume 20 ml on each side [10 ml bupivacaine %0.5 (50 mg) plus 1.5ml magnesium sulfate (150 mg) plus 8 |
