Abstract The study aims to highlight the challenges that Qur’ânic translators encounter at the lexical and rhetorical levels. The study investigates the semantics of verb forms in the Holy Qur’ân and their translations within their verses aiming at producing adequate translations for theses verbs. Methodology of the Study The study analyses the semantics of the verb forms in Modern Standard Arabic and compares them to the semantics of these forms in the Holy Qur’ân with the help of different exegeses and references of Morphology. The study chooses two translations of the meanings of the Holy Qur’ân i.e. Muhammad M.Ghali’s Towards Understanding the Ever-Glorious Qur’ân (2008) and Abdallah Yusuf Ali The Meaning of the Holy Qur’ân, text, translation and Commentary (2006). Questions of the Study -What are the semantic indications of the different Arabic verb forms? -What is the significance of the additions and omissions used in the Qur’ânic verb forms? -To what extent do the semantic indications of the Arabic Verb-forms used in the Glorious Qur’ân differ from those ones in any other Arabic text? -What are the effects that the recognition of the different meanings of the Qur’ânic verb forms may have upon the English translation of the meanings of the Qur’ân, (TMQ)? Findings of the Study The study finds that the semantics each one of the triliteral verb-forms differ from the semantics of the other one. Another finding is that certain triliteral verb-forms are used to express certain meanings that differ from those meanings expressed by the same verb-forms in Modern Standard Arabic. A third finding is that the Holy Qur’ân uses the additions and omissions of the triliteral verb forms to express certain meanings which may differ from those expressed by the same additions and omissions in Modern Standard Arabic. A fourth finding is that there are some limitations in expressing the semantics of the verb forms of the Qur’ân in one or both of the chosen translations. Limitations of the Study As the study covers all the triliteral verb forms in the Holy Qur’ân, it maked a huge book to be studied. Dealing with the Arabic triliteral verb forms causes that most of the references are written in Arabic. The word “trilateral” is written in the title of the study which means verbs that consist of three parts i.e. three letters which is not suitable for some of the verb forms such as (faaçala) فاعل and (istafçala) استفعل, so it was defined to the word “triliteral” in the whole study which means three-rooted verbs and is more suitable to describe all the mentioned verb-forms. There are many lists written about verb forms without enough analysis for these data which is considered a shortage as analysis is more needed for the benefit of researchers and translators. The Contribution of the Study in the Research Field The study helps the translators of the meaning of the Glorious Qur’ân to discover the rhetorical and aesthetic aspects of the use of verb forms in the Glorious Qur’ân. Moreover, they can transfer these aspects into their translations.
