Abstract

SUMMARY
Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a frequent chronic disorder with tremendous adverse impact on quality of life of patients and their families.
Patient-specifc instruments (PSIs) are already in relatively common use. Such instrumentation provides for a simplifed method that eliminates the need for conventional instrumentation.
The study aim to short term Assessment of the results of the patient undergoing UKA or TKA using computer assisted techniques in medial compartment Osteoarthritis in Egypt with regards to knee score and complications. demographic data (age, sex, Body mass index, side and deformity in varus pre-operative), range of flexion pre and post-operative, operative time and implant size.
In our study we performed Total knee arthroplasty using Patient specific instruments for 20 knees and unicompartmental knee arthroplasty using patient specific instruments for another 20 knees surgery for total of 40 knees and compared between them. All patients underwent Evaluation included history taking, physical examination preoperatively.
In patient follow-up after 6 weeks and 6 months it was found that regarding the knee society score that the knee score was much improved in TKA group than the UKA group while regarding the function score and range of flexion they both showed great improvement in both groups but with no marked difference between them while regarding complications two patient in TKA group complained of Deep vein thrombosis and other from patellar maltracking which the patient underwent patellar resurfacing and two patients in UKA group complained of aseptic loosening and the other from pain.
