Abstract Summary Our research studied the effects of ondansetron as an adjuvant to Ringer’s solution on post spinal hypotension and bradycardia in patients scheduled for hip joint surgery. This prospective randomized controlleddouble-blind study was carried out in Tanta University Hospitals at department of Orthopedic surgery on forty adult patients of both sex, aged between 50 and 70 years, ASA II &III, scheduled for orthopedic hip surgery.Patients were randomly classified using sealed envelopes into two equal groups each of 20 patients; group I (control group ): patients of this group received 5 mL normal saline IV bolus (to ensure proper blind study) and Ringer’s solution was infused as preloading 7 ml/kg 15 min before performing of SA and group II(ondansetron group ): patients of this group received ondansetron (Zofran™- GlaxosmithKline) 8mg IV bolus (5mL) and Ringer’s solution was infused as preloading 7 ml/kg 15 min before performing of SA. The summary of our results: As regards demographic data (Age, weight, BMI and gender), ASA physical status and duration of surgery, there was insignificant difference between both groups. MAP showed statistically significant decrease in group I compared to group II at 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30 minbut there was statistically insignificant difference in group I in comparison of mean values with group II at baseline, 2, 50 and 70 min and at the end. HR and SpO2 showed statistically insignificant difference between both groups all over the operation. |
