Abstract

Oxidative stress is recognized as a main causative of liver diseases, since the oxidative stress may lead to damage of hepatocytes. Many naturally occurring compounds of antioxidative action are known to protect liver cells from damage. Phenolic compounds in plants can remove toxic elements dye to antioxidative activity. The present work was thereby conducted to evaluate the potential effect of Annona fruit parts including (pulp, green peel, black seeds) and their blend for detoxification of hepatointoxicated rats injected by CCl4 injection.
To achieve these aims, the design of the study were as follows:
Fifty (50) (180±10g) male albino rats fed on basal diet for 7 days for adaptation; only (n=45 rats) were injected by CCl4 to induce liver damage. All rats were divided into 10 groups (5 rats each); all groups were fed for 28 days according to the following groups:
group (1) : (control -) rats (n=5) were fed on basal diet only.
group (2) : (control +) rats (n=5) were injected by CCl4, fed on basal diet only.
group (3) : CCl4 hepatotoxicity rats (n=5) were fed on basal diet containing 5% pulp of graviola powder.
group (4) : CCl4 hepatotoxicity rats (n=5) were fed on basal diet containing 7.5% pulp of graviola powder.
group (5) : CCl4 hepatotoxicity rats (n=5) were fed on basal diet containing 5% green peel of graviola powder.
group (6) : CCl4 hepatotoxicity rats (n=5) were fed on basal diet containing 7.5% green peel of graviola powder.
group (7) : CCl4 hepatotoxicity rats (n=5) were fed on basal diet containing 5% seeds of graviola powder.
group (8) : CCl4 hepatotoxicity rats (n=5) were fed on basal diet containing 7.5% seeds of graviola powder.
group (9) : CCl4 hepatotoxicity rats (n=5) were fed on basal diet containing 5% mix of all with equal ratio (1:1:1 W/W).
group (10) : CCl4 hepatotoxicity rats (n=5) were fed on basal diet containing 7.5% mix of all with equal ratio (1:1:1 W/W).
At the end of the experimental (28 days), animal were scarified, blood samples were collected after 12 hours fasting and serum separated to determine the following parameters:
 Serum liver enzymes (AST, ALT, AST/ALT and ALP), lipid profile including cholesterol (TC), triglycride (TG), high density lipoprotein (HDL-c), low density lipoprotien (LDL-c), very low density lipoprotien (VLDL-c), Atherogenic index, serum protein fractions (Total protein, Albumin, globulin), serum bilirubin fractions (Total bilirubin, Direct bilirubin, Indirect bilirubin), kidney fractions (Urea, Creatinine, Uric acid) & antioxidant enzymes (GPX, SOD, CAT).
 At the same time, the organs liver, kidney, lungs, heart and spleen were removed, washed in saline solution, dried by wattman paper, weighted and stored frozen in formalin solution (10% V/V) for histopathological examination.
 Biological, biochemical and histopathological changes were investigated.
