Abstract The current study aims at investigating the effectiveness of a proposed training program based on the teaching performance standards included in Marzano’s Casual Model for Teacher Evaluation in developing the professional performance of teachers of English. Also, it aims at measuring the effect of the program on improving students’ attitudes toward learning English. To achieve the purpose of the study, sixty six EFL teachers and 300 EFL preparatory stage students participated in the present study. They were classified into two groups; the experimental group and the control group. For data collection five instruments were used: teacher observation checklist, teacher self efficacy scale, focus group discussions, student survey and student attitude scale. In the light of review of literature, the researcher designed the present training program that lasted for nine weeks. Results proved that using Marzano’s model of teacher evaluation has a good effect on improving the professional performance of EFL teachers and developing students’ attitudes toward learning English. The study concluded with recommendations and suggestions for further research. |
