Abstract In the present study, gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) and gold/chitosan (Au/Ch) nanocomposites were prepared by the reduction of gold salt using Lemon juice that works as reducing and stabilizing agent (green synthesis). The prepared nanoparticles were characterized by UV-VIS spectrophotometry and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The prepared nanoparticles were used to determine the concentration of zinc ions in real samples like Zinc origin and Octozinc tablets that are available in the pharmaceutical market of Egypt. The results revealed that Au/Ch nanocomposites were efficient to detect the total concentration of zinc ions, while Au nanoparticles were potential with Octozinc and gave wrong data with Zinc origin. The activity of Au/Ch nanocomposites is higher than Au nanoparticle referred to the presence of chitosan that increases the stability of Au NPs and facilitates in the conjunction between the zinc ions and the Au NPs. It can be concluded that Au/Ch nanosensor is a promising optical sensor of zinc ions concentrations in pharmaceutical products. |
