Abstract Visible light communication (VLC) is one of the most beneficial communication technologies for the communication systems. The main aim of this thesis is to present new methods that outperform the traditional methods in VLC systems. Channel estimation and indoor localization have been investigated in the thesis to improve the accuracy of the VLC systems. Our first contribution is to introduce a new proposal by using Kalman filter for channel estimation. The modulation techniques used in the channel estimation are direct current optical-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DCO-OFDM) and asymmetrical clipping optical-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (ACO- OFDM). The proposed system improves the performance, where the results are compared with the traditional system with different constellations size. Our second aim is to increase the accuracy of indoor localization system. Various methods are used to develop the localization system as shown in the literature review. This thesis presents three different methods for reducing the average positioning error. The comparison between recent published papers and proposed localization systems is discussed. The effect of both line of sight (LoS) and non-line of sight (NLoS) is adopted in the proposed positioning systems. The results show that the effect of LoS gets better accuracy than that of LoS\NLoS. |
