Abstract Objectives: The aim of work is to assess results of long segment fixation of thoracolumbar burst fractures without fusion . We studied 30 patients at Mansoura Emergency Hospital. Long segment fixation method provide more stability by using screws two levels above and two levels below the fractured level and screws in the fractured level in some cases. Indirect decompression of spinal canal done by ligamentotaxis. Follow up of the studied patients done at the outpatient clinic at 2 weeks postoperative, at one month, 3 month, 6 month, 9 month, pre-reomval of the implant and at the end of follow up. Assessment of the patients radiologically done by measuring local kyphotic angle, spinal canal compromise and anterior vertebral wedging percentage at preoperative, immediate postoperative, pre-removal of the implant and at the end of follow up. Then, the implants removed at 10 month to a year and we had no implant failure in our series. The collected data compared to each other at the end of follow up. There were no implant failure and no neurological deterioration of any studied patients meanwhile, there was superficial infection of two patients and treated by antibiotics and daily dressing. |
