Abstract Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) and fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) system can be seen as the most effective solutions for improving the structural performance of many structures in need of strengthening/repair. In addition, using this technique will enhance the structural integrity of the existing structures, without adding to the weight. The enhancement in the structural performance provided by this strengthening technique mainly depends on concrete compressive strength of strengthened elements. However, in several structures in need of repair concrete strength can’t be controlled. All previous work concentrated on slabs with essentially openings with code limited openings dimensions. Therefore, their results may not be suitable for direct extrapolation to cases involving larger openings. As a result of that we conducted this thesis In this research, the concept of strengthening of cantilever slabs has been performed by using Engineered Cementitious Composites thin layers or CFRP sheets to avoid early concrete crushing, Consequently, This will be an increase in the efficiency of strengthening technique. The experimental investigation carried out in unstrengthened and strengthened concrete cantilever slabs shows that; the innovated hybrid strengthening strategy, an ECC overlay or CFRP sheets strengthening technique, significantly enhanced the flexural behavior of the tested RC slabs, not only in terms of ultimate load but also in deflection and cracking behavior. |
