Abstract This study aimed to determine the effect of both perceived dark traits of the leader’s personality and the strategies of self-leadership on journalists’ job performance in the Egyptian national newspapers using the (Warp Pls 5) to measure direct and indirect effects. As well as presenting many results and recommendations that may contribute to improving the journalistic work environment and increasing the levels of journalists performance who are working in the Egyptian national newspapers. The sample was collected from the study population, which consists of the journalists working in the Egyptian national newspapers, where 391 items were reached, and the response rate was acceptable. Based on the data collected that were statistically analyzed using the Warp Pls 5, the study found a positive significant effect of both the Machiavellianism and narcissism on job performance, and a negative significant effect of psychopathy on both task performance and contextual performance. In addition, the study concluded that there is a positive significant effect of both narcissism and psychopathy on strategies for self-leadership. There is also a positive significant effect of self-management strategies on job performance. Finally, a positive indirect effect of narcissism on job performance through the mediating effect of self-leadership strategies. Finally, the theoretical and practical implications of the study results and the future research of the study were discussed. |
