Abstract

Summary conclusions Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is one of the most commonly seen chronic diseases of childhood. The incidence of JIA is approximately from 2 to 20 per 100,000 children /year in the population below 16 years of age. Despite new therapeutic options including biologic agents, burden of JIA remains considerable. Earlier diagnosis and aggressive treatment as well as understanding the environmental triggers and genetic predisposition are necessary to achieve an improvement in JIA outcome . The clinical spectrum spans from time-limited monoarthritis to ongoing aggressive polyarticular disease, and may include severe systemic features. Cardiac involvement in JIA may be in the form of pericarditis, myocarditis ,valvular disease or systolic and diastolic dysfunction of the both ventricles which may be attributable to early structural abnormalities (hypertrophy or interstitial fibrosis) caused by prolonged inflammation and can be observed without the clinical symptoms of heart disease. The aim of this study was assessment the cardiovascular involvement in JIA , thus we can predict and prevent further cardiovascular risk .This study was carried out on sixty JIA patients selected from the selected from the outpatient and inpatient clinics of Physical Medicine, Rheumatology &Rehabilitation department of Tanta University Hospitals. Thirty apparently healthy children matched in age and sex was used as controls.
