Abstract Single implant mandibular overdenture had been reported to achieve satisfactory patient centered results. Two groups (Ball and CM LOC attachments) were chosen to retain the over-denture. 30 subjects were recruited for non-submerged healing protocol. Implants were installed based on CBCT planning and after patients’ approval confirmed by a written consent. A healing cap was left for three months after which randomization was done prior to attachment pick up to select from either ball or CM LOC attachments OHIP-EDENT which is a type of oral health related quality of life and peri-implant soft tissue reactions were reported at 3,6,9, &12 months interval of time. Results had shown statistically insignificant results between the two groups regarding the OHRQOL although CM LOC attachment had expressed relatively higher satisfaction compared to ball. Regarding soft tissue reactions, gingival inflammation and plaque accumulation were more observed around and over ball respectively. expressing relatively worse results than that of CM LOC attachment. The results for the different domains of the OHRQOL suggested that the replacement of CDs with mandibular overdentures retained by a single implant caused immediate improvements in decreased oral pain and discomfort, late improvement in oral function (mastication), and no influences on physiological or social aspects of discomfort or disability over a 1-year period regardless of the attachment type. |
