Abstract

The main goal of the present work is to synthesis ternary polymer blend containing at least one natural polymeric matrix filled with different concentrations of the antibiotic drug suitable for medical and antimicrobial application including wound healing. Chitosan, Polyvinyl alcohol and Sodium alginate represent polymers used in this study. The work extends to characterize the single, binary, ternary polymer systems and the combination of the ternary system with Amoxicillin drug by using different techniques to modify the physical properties of blend and to obtain the optimum concentration that has unique properties such as antibacterial activity, wound healing and wound dressing. The blending process of Chitosan, Polyvinyl alcohol and Sodium alginate gives the final product of unique biological and biomedical characteristics, especially when added or modified with available drugs. Final product characterizes by their low cost, easy processing, antibacterial activities against different pathogenic grams in combination with their controllable swelling rates that facilitate use in healing and regeneration of wounds. FTIR spectra of ternary blend with antibiotic drug verify the successful incorporation of amoxicillin with the ternary blend, UV/Vis. spectra of ternary blend with amoxicillin verified good information about optical properties, XRD diffractograms verified information about nature (crystal/amorphous) lattice arrangement and reveals compatibility with the FTIR spectrum of ternary blend with amoxicillin, SEM images explained highly incorporation between ternary blend and amoxicillin by studying porosity of the surface. Antibacterial capacity evaluated against two gram positive bacteria, two gram-negative bacteria and anti-fungal activities test against one fungus which all samples contained different content of drug show good antibacterial properties against one fungus (Candida albicans) specifically at high amount of amoxicillin with ternary blend, Swelling ratio evaluated versus different pH values and different amount of amoxicillin drug which produced good results for wound healing and finally In vivo wound healing effect by using ternary blend with (0.48 g/g) of amoxicillin perform good results compared with normal healing or ternary blend only. All results showed the ternary blend with amoxicillin release capacity and antibacterial properties making it a potential wound healing and dressing.
