Abstract

A total number of twenty adult Morgel dogs had been selected in this study, their weights ranged from 15-25 kg body weight and their ages range from 7-10 years old. All animals were apparently clinically healthy with no evidence of cardiovascular diseases based on physical examination, complete blood count (CBC), serum biochemistry analysis, and echocardiography. The dogs were housed in individual cages. All animals under experimentation were divided into 4 groups each group consisted of five dogs, the first group was served as control negative, the second group was treated with a single injection of Tilmicosin , the third group was treated with L.carnitine followed by single injection of Tilmicosin while the fourth group was treated with Green tea followed by single injection of Tilmicosin. Regarding to the clinical findings in injected dogs, the obtained results revealed that shaking and scratching, panting, fatigue, lethargy, pale gums, tachycardia, and dyspnea were the most common clinical signs and were considered an evidence of cardiotoxicity. Regarding to the hematological findings, there was a significant increase in RBCs, hemoglobin, and PCV. In the meantime, the total leukocytic count and neutrophil percentages showed significant elevation. Concerning serum biochemical tests, there was a significant reduction in GSH with an elevation of MDA. On the other hand, there was a significant elevation in troponin I and CK-MB. Concerning echocardiography, there was an enlargement of the left ventricle with a significant increase in LVIDs and ESV and reduction in FS and EF while, there were non- significant changes in LVIDd, IVSTd, IVSTs, LVPWd, LVPWs, EDV, and SV. In the regard to the both protective regimes used to decrease the cardiotoxic effect of tilmicosin, both of them gave good result with nearly similar results in many tests, while there were non- significant variations between both groups no (3and 4) in RBCs, hemoglobin, PCV, MDA, troponin I and CK-MB with a nearly same results in all the echocardiographic parameters.
