Abstract Pneumothorax is defined as the presence of air or gas in the pleural cavity. The clinical results are dependent on the degree of collapse of the lung on the affected side. If the pneumothorax is significant, it can cause a shift of the mediastinum and compromise hemodynamic stability. Most cases of pneumothorax are iatrogenic in origin caused by barotrauma secondary to MV. PSP occurs in children without known lung disease, SPS pneumothorax may occur in patients with underlying lung diseases such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, or pneumonia.Pneumothorax should be considered a medical emergency and requires a high index of suspicion and prompt recognition and intervention. The diagnosis of pneumothorax can be made by physical examination or imaging studies including chest X-ray, ultrasonography, and CT scan. Pneumothorax is associated with prolonged length of stay, increased morbidity and mortality. The objective of this study was to study the prevalence and risk factors of pneumothorax among patients in Tanta PICU The duration of research was conducted from July2017 to November 2018. Patients were divided in to 3 groups:group I: Twenty patients on P-CMV.group II: Twenty patients on HFOV.group III: Twenty non-ventilated patient. |
