Abstract This study was conducted to compare between conventional heat-cured Poly-methyl methacrylate denture and metal re-enforced polyamide denture regarding oral health related quality of life using oral health impact profile for edentulous questionnaire, readings were taken at one and six months. Fourteen patients fulfilling the eligibility criteria were recruited from the out-patient clinic in the prosthodontic department, faculty of dentistry, Cairo university. The patients were distributed randomly into two groups (seven per group) after jaw registration phase where; the control group received Heat-cured polymethyl methacrylate maxillary and mandibular dentures, while the intervention group received heat cured polymethyl methacrylate maxillary denture and metal reinforced polyamide mandibular denture. Results showed that all patients are satisfied in the control group at one and six months with mean scores (17.71 and 17) respectively and in the intervention group with mean scores (23 and 13.28) respectively. There was no effect of time on the control group, where no statistically significant difference within the control group between one and six months at a P> 0.05. While there was effect of time in the intervention group, where there was a statistically significant difference between one and six months, favoring six months at a P<0.05. Between the two groups there was a statistically significant difference at one month favoring control group at a P<0.05, while there was no statistically significant difference at six months at a P>0.05. |
