Abstract

The present work is aimed to evaluate the beneficial role of vitamin D or/and coconut oil on DM induced experimentally in mice by STZ and their modulatory role in some physiological parameters such as blood glucose, insulin, TSH, T3, T4 and total calcium levels in the blood sera as well as counting some immune cells and complete blood count. In addition, the study included histological (by using H & E) and IHC studies of the thyroid glands by using calcitonin immunostain marker to express the parafollicular cells (C cells) and anti-cytoskeleton (markers for vimentin & cytokeratin). Also, Histological (by using H & E) and IHC studies of spleen were also involved by using CD3 immunostain (marker for T cells) and CD20 immunostain (marker for B cells) were used. In addition, the studies contained the count of splenocytes by hemocytometer after staining with trypan blue under light microscope, and counting of T lymphocytes by using flow cytometer (using anti CD4 & CD8 monoclonal antibodies) and complete blood count in all mice groups.
