Abstract Geomagnetic storm is a global simultaneous phenomenon affecting the whole Earth. Which means that all ground magnetometers running online will record such event. An algorithm has been proposed using different characteristic features of storm sudden commencement (SC), one of them is used, for the first time, for automatically determining SC arrival time. The developed algorithm is based, for the first time, on data records from a network of ground magnetometers. This algorithm was implemented using multi Resolution Analysis (MRA) extracted from Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) by Haar wavelet filter. Four-year data from six ground stations from low to high latitude had been analyzed to develop and test this technique. Resolution of these records is one sample per second. There are 450 days available from five stations. Within these days there are 18 SC events with 100% successful rate and 2.33% false alarm rate. |
