Abstract Aim of this study was to evaluate the ECG changes in patients with NAFLD and its correlation with disease severity in Egyptian patients. This study included 100 subjects. They were divided into 2 groups. group 1 included 50 patients with NAFLD diagnosed by clinical, laboratory, radiological and pathological features. Another 50 healthy subjects were enrolled as controls, with normal clinical, laboratory, radiological, and pathological examination and negative steatosis in liver biopsy. Laboratory investigations, ECG and ECHO examination were done for all included patients and controls. Liver biopsy with histopathological grading and staging of steatosis, inflammation, ballooning, and fibrosis was also done. The results showed significant higher QTc interval, BMI, SBP, DBP, pulse rate, total cholesterol, triglycerides, serum creatinine, liver size, portal vein diameter, and lower serum calcium and portal vein velocity in the NAFLD patients in comparison to controls. 16% and 8% of NAFLD patients had cardiac diastolic and valvular dysfunction. There was significant direct correlation between QTc interval and the grade of steatosis, NAS and liver size. |
