Abstract Introduction: Mandibular overdenture overcomes the conventional complete denture’s drawbacks. It improves retention, and chewing efficiency. Purpose: To evaluate the effect of number and linear distribution of implant supported mandibular over denture using ball attachment on the retention, and chewing efficiency. Materials and Methods: Six male patients completely edentulous were involved in the study. In this within patient study, each patient received animplant supported overdenture attached with ball attachments. Implants were placed in the mandible in the midline and two canine areas, and checked for retention and masticatory efficiency. Results:Retention, and chewing efficiency values showed high statistically significant difference between the three groups after one month. Conclusions : Placement of third mandibular implant in the anterior area is a reliable option for maximizing retention and chewing efficiency. Recommendations: Prospective comparison between the results obtained by three implants placed in the linear distribution, and those placed in triangular distribution using the same attachment using different attachments. |
