Abstract

Nursing educators play an important role in educational organization achievement as well as role of emotional stability is important in academic profession. Emotional stability has the direct impact on the educator’s behavior and teaching method. Also, educators are considered as the pillars of any institution, which directly or indirectly affects the standards of the institution and students performance. Furthermore, emotional stability person had a number of characteristics like the capability of responding in gradation, ability to delay responses, especially negative emotions, freedom from unreasonable fears and the ability to commit their mistakes. Also, emotional stability helps the educators to take the right decisions which are beneficial for the welfare of organization. And the educator with high emotional stability will take more rational decisions as compared to the one with low emotional stability. The aim of the current study is to assess the relation between emotional stability and decision making skills among nursing educators at Beni-suif nursing schools. A descriptive correlation research design was used to achieve the aim of the present study. The subjects of the study were included all nursing educators who working in the Nursing Schools at Beni-Suif governorate during the period of data collection, the total number was 105 nursing educators. The required data were collected through the utilization of Data was collect through the utilization of two tools as follows tool (I) it was included from two parts as follows :Part (I) – personal data sheet: It was included items as follows: age, nursing qualification, area of work, current position, years of experience, and residence. Part (II) - Emotional Stability Questionnaire: It consisted of two dimensions as follows the first dimension: ability to control the different emotion, Second dimension: flexibility in dealing with life situations and tool (II): Decision Making Questionnaire. The present study showed that, the majority (81%) of the nursing educators had low level about total score of emotional stability and only (4.8%) had high level; with total mean score (112.40+41.54).There were three quarters (75.2%) of the nursing educators had low level in their decision making skills. In contrast, there is only (7.6%) of them had high level in their decision making skills; with mean scores (77.08+38.50). There were positive correlations between emotional stability dimensions and total score emotional stability, as well as between total score of emotional stability and total score of decision making skills among nursing educators. Recommendations: The selection of nursing educators at the nursing schools should be based on emotional stability test. Educational workshops and periodical training programs should be conducted to all nursing educators to increase their knowledge and competencies regarding the development of emotional stability and decision making skills.
