Abstract Melanocytic nevi are benign tumors of melanocytes. They can be classified clinically into congenital (small, large and giant) and acquired types. The later is subdivided into CAMN, spitz nevus, blue nevus, and dysplastic nevus. Histologically, CAMN can be classified into junctional, compound and dermal types according to the level of involvement The importance of treatment of CAMN is that they are considered as a risk factor for melanoma. Laser treatment is an important tool for treatment of these nevi for cosmetic purposes. CO2 and Er:YAG lasers are important for eradication of CAMN This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of two different laser modalities in treatment of melanocytic nevi; CO2 laser and Er:YAG laser. The patients were divided into 2 groups, each one involved 20 cases. group I was treated by CO2 laser, while group II was treated by Er:YAG laser. All cases were assessed clinically, histopathologically and immunohistochemically. Electron microscopy was done for 10 nevi before treatment and other 10 cases after 4 months including 6 recurrent nevi The hemostasis in Er:YAG laser sessions was achieved by thumb and index pinch of non operating hand of the operator. |
