Abstract Abortion is the expulsion or extraction from its mother of a fetus or an embryo weighing 500 grams or less. (Approximately equals to 20-22 completed weeks of gestation) (140-154 completed days) or an otherwise product of gestation of any weight and specifically designated (e.g. hydatidiform mole) irrespective of gestational age and whether or not there is evidence of life and whether or not the abortion was spontaneous or induced. In the United States, abortion refers to pregnancies terminating up to 20 weeks gestational age or delivery of a fetus that weighs less than 500 grams (Cunningham et al.,2009)CA-125 was recognized by OC-125 antibody which is a murine monoclonal IgG developed somatic hybridization of spleen cells derived from immunization of a mouse with an ovarian cancer cell line OVCA-433 obtained from the ascetic fluid from patients with ovarian ’papillary serous cystadeno-carcinoma (Bast et al., 2003).Dalton et al. (1995) reported a tendency toward lower levels of CA-125 in patients with spontaneous abortions; however, their findings did not reach statistical significance. In cases of recurrent miscarriage, CA-125 was found to have no significant role. Progesterone is a C-21 steroid hormone, belongs to a class of hormones called Progestogens. The basic structure of progesterone is perhydrocyclopenteno- phenatherene to which angular methyl group is attached to carbon atom 10 and 13 and ethyl group at carbon atom 17. It has oxygenated functional groups that modify the parent structure, including a double bond between carbon atom 4 and 5 and ketone group at carbon atom 3 and 20 (Schumacher et al., 2004). Al Mohamady et al. (2016) found that the level of serum progesterone for the threatened miscarriage (miscarried) group was 8.7 ± 1.85 ng/ml; while for the threatened miscarriage (continued) group it was 26.3 ± 7.2 ng/ml, which showed a statistically significant difference. |
