Abstract The main objective of this research is to study the main stylistic and pragmatic features of Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises and Fathey Ghanem’s The Man Who Lost His Shadow. The selection of Hemingway and Ghanem to be compared stylistically is based on their career as both were journalists. Both novels are studied and investigated in detail via a group of selected tools involved in an elicited model which will reveal the similarity and/difference shared by both novelists . The tools used in the present research –involved in the selected model of analysis- are classified into three main categories: contextual, stylistic and pragmatic. The contextual tools are sub-divided into deixis and discourse markers, stylistic is sub- classified into grammatical, semantic and lexical whereas the pragmatic ones involve speech acts which is sub- grouped into Direct speech and free indirect speech. The results achieved indicate the similarity between both Hemingway and Ghanem ’s style in both contextual and stylistic aspects.
