Abstract Objective: to assess the effect of local delivery of lysozyme gel as an adjuvant therapeutic approach in management of gingival and periodontal diseases in terms of clinical and microbiological studies. Patient & Methods: 15 patients with chronic periodontitis were selected All patients were subjected to conventional periodontal therapy (SRP) in one side (control side), moreover; the other side (applied side) was subjected to conventional periodontal therapy (SRP) and sub gingival delivery of lysozyme gel ( split-mouth design ) And followed up for 4 weeks. Clinical parameters used in this study included; gingival index (GI), probing pocket depth (PPD), clinical attachment level (CAL) and papillary bleeding index. These parameters were recorded for all selected patients to provide clinical evaluation of periodontal status at the beginning of the study (baseline), and at the end of the study after 4 weeks. In addition, sub gingival plaque sample were taken before starting the treatment and also at the end of the study after 4 weeks and analysed for isolation of p.gingivalis . Results : The applied side show enhancement in the periodontal condition clinically and microbiologically than control side. Conclusion: Conventional periodontal therapy results are enhanced with using local delivery of lysozyme gel subgingivally in conjunction. |
