Abstract The solar air heaters (SAHs) are the most common component of solar energy usage systems which convert the solar energy to thermal energy by using absorber surface and then the heat transfer to the air flow through the solar air heater. A numerical study on five different cross-sectional shapes (circular, semi-circular, half-circle plus isosceles triangle, half circle-minus isosceles triangle shape and crescent shape) was achieved to find the best thermal efficiency with variation of inlet air velocity. All the models which studied had the same absorber surface area. The effect of varying the inlet air velocity varied from 0.25 to 2.0 (m.s-1) with a constant solar radiation intensity 1000 (W.m-2) on the thermal efficiency, ambient air temperature 31.5 °C and constant inlet temperature 32.9°C was studied. |
