Abstract Background: Accurate prediction of postoperative refraction depends on preoperative biometric measurements and the intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation formula used. Aim of the work: Is to study the correlation between the effective lens position (ELP) and the post-operative refractive outcome. Study design: A prospective cohort study. Methodology: 100 eyes with cataract have been included. They have been subjected to taking full detailed history, detailed ophthalmological examination, uncomplicated phaco procedure and postoperative follow up in form of complete clinical ophthalmological examination, best corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) and IOLmaster done second week after surgery. We compare the accuracy of different IOL power calculation formulas (SRK-T, Hoffer Q, Holladay1 and Haigis) regarding ELP and refraction prediction. Results: there was no significant difference in the accuracy of the four formulas in the prediction of postoperative spherical equivalent (SE) refractive error. But there was statistically significant difference between different expected ELP by four formulas and actual postoperative anterior chamber depth (ACD). Conclusion: The ELP prediction is not the only factor for accurate biometry. |
