Abstract This study provides a new method to control the growth of toxic cyanobacteria in water sources, through the interference with the bioelectric signals generated from these organisms during cell division by extremely low frequency electromagnetic waves (ELF-EMWs) at resonance frequency. We selected two species of toxic cyanobacteria with different habits including the colonial Microcystis aeruginosa and the filamentous Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii that widely spread in drinking water sources. |
