The main objective of this research was to study the extension farmers needs of extension concerning the optimum use of pesticides. For cotton, wheat and rice crops. The sub objectives were: 1- Investigating the social, Economical and Communicational characteristics of the three crop growers. 2- Determining the Extension farmers needs concerning the optimal use of pesticides. 3- Investigating the correlated and affecting factors which determine the level of farmers knowledge concerning the optimum use of pesticides for cotton only, wheat only and rice only. 4- Investigating the correlated and affecting factors which determine the general knowledge of farmers concerning the optimum use of pesticides. A questionnaire by interviewing used to collect data from a random sample of 2 15 farmers among three villages at Sedi-Salem district, Kafr El-Sheikh governorate. The statistical methodology utilized in this study were: percentages, arithmetic means, simple and multiple correlation coefficients, simple and multiple regressions as well as partial regression coefficients and t -ratios. The main results of the study were: 1- The low level of lmowledge for the study sample of fai-ins in general, where 74.88% of them have a low level of knowledge in the use of cotton pesticides, and 67.91% in the use of wheat pesticides, and 53.02% in the use of rice pesticides. It was also found that 68.84% of the interviewers have a medium general ltnowledge concerning the use of pesticides, and 75.8 1% of them have a low level of knowledge concerning tlie optimum use of pesticides on cotton, wheat, and rice as a whole, this indicating the grate needs for such farmers tobe will informed about such target. 2- The simple correlation coefficients of the study showed a positive and significant affect at the 0.0 1 level between the level of lmowledge of the optim~m use of pesticides for the three crops and the educational status, general knowledge, social participations, benefits gained fi-om references, and extensional coin~nunicationald egree. The correlation coefficients of the analysis also pointed out the positive correlation and significant at the 0.05 level between the knowledge level and each of the following variables, size of landholding, cultural level and fatalism . 3- The partial regression coefficients of the study as well as t- ratios furthermore, revealed tlie significance affect of the general knowledge variable at the 0.01 level, and the significance affect ofthe living facilities at the 0.05 level, also the significance affect of farmers willingness of the agricultural work at the 0.05 level. The nlultiple correlation coefficient reveals that 32.3% of the variations of the respondents knowledge level is due to the previous factors. The stepwise procedure of the study also pointed out that six independent variables have significance affect on the level of the respondents knowledge and explain about 27.7% of the variations of such level, these variable are: general knowledge, benefits gained from kxowledge sources and references, living facilities, acceptance of agricultural work, social partnership, and size of landholding.
