Abstract Through this investigation, useful information were obtained from the application of various chromatographic methods (CC as well as PTLC) and spectral measurements as MS, GC/MS, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR. The project could be explained and illustrated in three chapters. Chapter I:- This is an introductory part of the Thesis, which comprises detailed literature survey about the previously isolated natural products. Furthermore, the previously isolated natural products that isolated from the selected species by other workers and a brief account on their taxonomy, medicinal and economic uses were described. Chapter II:- It includes results and discussion which describes the original work carried out and is summarized under two parts as the following:- Part I: -Processing both active extracts after screening their bioactivity as: Antitumor. Antibacterial. Part II: - The application part deals with the determining of bio-activities of the obtained natural extracts and their major isolated compounds for the following: In-vitro antitumor activity against both human colorectal and prostate carcinoma (HCT116 and PC3 cell lines) was evaluated. Anti-bacterial activity against different pathogenic bacteria and the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the most promising fractions was also evaluated in ppm. Chapter III:- It is the experimental section that describes in details processing of the plant and soft coral species under investigation, which led to the isolation and characterization of the natural products. The Thesis is closed up with a list of various references consulted in performing this work. from the above mentioned data, we recommended the use of N. molle as antitumor agent after further in-vitro investigation. We also recommend both N. molle and R. mucronata as anti-bacterial agents. |
