Abstract The properties of epoxy-resin reinforced with alumina nanoparticles was investigated. In this work, the effect of adding alumina nanoparticles to epoxy-resin on the mechanical, physical, and electrochemical properties was studied. The percentages used was 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, and 1 weight percentage for mechanical and physical properties and 0.5, 1 weight percentage for electrochemical properties. The effect of ultraviolet radiations for 48 hours on the mechanical properties and comparing the results before and after exposure is also measured. Two preparation procedures were made, one for mechanical and physical tests and the other for electrochemical tests. For both cases the distribution of nanoparticles on fracture surface, for the mechanical and physical tests, and cross section of the specimens, for the electrochemical tests was studied, using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) Key words: Alumina nanoparticles, nanocomposite, epoxy-resin, physical properties, mechanical properties, electrochemical properties, ultraviolet radiation, scanning electron microscope. |
