Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to improve the efficiency of the beamforming of smart antenna system and to avoid the disadvantages of beamforming algorithms through proposing a new approach to beamform the radiation pattern of the smart antenna. In the first part, investigation and comparative study of the performance of different adaptive non-blind beamforming algorithms is conducted. In this investigation, the number of array elements, the displacement among them, and the noise level are changed in each algorithm to verify the strengths and weaknesses for them.
In the second part, a non-blind adaptive beamforming algorithm is proposed to enhance the performance of beamforming process of smart antenna and solve many problems of the other non-blind algorithm based on the strengths and weaknesses of them. Finally, the proposed algorithm and the other algorithms is applied to different types of microstrip array antenna to investigate their performances with these antenna types.
