Abstract

The present investigation was accompanied at seed science laboratory, Agronomy Department, Mansoura University, Egypt during May and June, 2017. The objectives of this study were aimed to explore the response of some sorghum genotypes with seed soaking and non-soaking of humic acid treatments under different salinity concentration and to confirm seedling growth performance for salinity tolerance among sorghum genotypes.1- The results clearly showed that soaking in humic acid significantly affected studied germination parameters, chlorophyll content, shoot and root length (cm), weight of fresh shoot and root, weight of dry shoot, relative dry weight and germination stress tolerance index except seedling vigor index, root dry weight and percentage of seedling height reduction insignificantly affected.1- The outcomes of statistical analysis clearly revealed that studied sorghum cultivars significantly affected studied germination parameters, chlorophyll content, length of shoot and root (cm), the weight of fresh shoot, seedling height reduction and relative dry weight percentages as well as stress tolerance index, however insignificantly affected root fresh and dry weight and shoot dry weight.1- The results indicated that that salinity concentration significantly affected studied germination parameters, length of shoot and root (cm), weight of fresh shoot and root (g), weight of dry shoot and root, percentages of seedling height reduction and stress tolerance index, except, chlorophyll content, the relative dry weight increased with increasing salinity levels. 1-Regarding to the interaction between humic acid soaking and studied sorghum cultivars, the results clearly revealed that this interaction significantly affected the most studied germination parameters, chlorophyll content, shoot and root length, shoot and root fresh weight and stress tolerance index however, germination index, insignificantly affected.1- Concerning to the interaction between humic acid soaking and salinity levels, the results clearly revealed that this interaction significantly affected the most studied germination parameters and chlorophyll content, however, insignificantly affected germination rate.1- Concerning to the interaction between studied sorghum and salinity levels, the results clearly revealed that this interaction significantly affected the most studied germination parameters and chlorophyll content, except, length of shoot and root, weight of fresh shoot and root, the percentages of seedling height reduction and relative dry weight besides stress tolerance index insignificantly influenced. It could be concluded that for maximizing grain sorghum germination characters and seedling parameters under salinity stress are produced from sown soaking of Mecca hybrid or Giza 15 cultivar in humic acid at the control treatment or at salinity concentrations of level of 3 dSm-1 and recommended for sown at new reclaimed saline soil.
