Abstract Infertility affects 10-15% of couples. Male factor is responsible for 60 % of cases and NOA represent about 10% of infertile males. Kisspeptin is a relatively newly discovered hormone. The studies point to its role in regulation of HPG axis. Its role in infertility disorders is still too much obscure. We aimed by this study to clarify the role of kisspeptin in NOA. To approach our goal, we selected 25 NOA males (patient group) and another 25 normal fertile age matched males (control group) to compare between them. In addition to thorough history, clinical examination, semen analysis; we measured serum FSH, LH, prolactin and total testosterone as well as serum kisspeptin levels. Statistical analysis of results showed that: 1. Both groups are age matched. 2. Testicular volume is markedly lower in the patient group in comparison to the control group. 3. Serum FSH & LH levels are significantly higher in the patient group. 4. Serum prolactin level is the same in both groups 5. Serum total testosterone level is markedly lower in the patient group. 6. Kisspeptin is significantly lower in the NOA patients compared to the fertile males. 7. No correlation between kisspeptin & FSH, LH, prolactin & testosterone. |
