Abstract The research work was carried out at the soil and water department, faculty of Agriculture,Tanta University, during the two growing seasons(2013-2014 and 2014-2015). The research studies comprised of two field experiment to devise the effect of two biochar types and there residual effect as a soil amendment on the growth of both maize and wheat crops and some soil properties compared with both compost or gypsum amendments. Maize cultivar (TWC 329 hybrid)(Zea mays L.)and two wheat(Triticum aestivum L.) varieties, Sakha-93 as salt-tolerant and Gemmiza-9 as salt-sensitive were obtained from Crops Research Institute, Agricultural Research Center, Egypt. The experiments were conducted at Agricultural Faculty Farm,Tanta University,Egypt.Wood sawdust(BW)and maize stover(BM)were used as a feed stock to separately produce two types of biochar through slow pyrolysis in a kiln with a retention time of 2 h. The biochar were subsequently cooled overnight. The biochars were gently crushed and ground to pass through a 0.5 mm sieve before use and analysis. The objectives of research were To study the reclamation effectiveness. of two types of biochar compared with Gypsum or compost alone. Evaluation of the response of both. maize and wheat crops to differe treatments.Monitoring of the gradual improvement in soil physical and chemical properties. |
