Abstract The main objective of this study was to develop, construct and test a small orange grading machine. This research was conducted to obtain the basic data that can be used in the machine construction and to achieve the optimum requirements during handling operation. The theoretical analysis was introduced to associate the parameters involved in the proposed handling machine and to analyze the behavior of fruits and force acting on them during handling operation to estimate the magnitude of the affecting forces and factors that may cause any damage of fruits.Consequently,it will be possible to find out how to control each affecting factor in order to achieve the optimum requirements during handling operation to achieve the optimum condition for handling operation. To evaluate the performance of the modified handling machine, a series of experiments were carried out to study some parameters, such as the effect of feeding speeds 0.20,0.25,0.30 and0.35 m/s, grading belts speeds 0.30, 0.40, 0.50, and 0.60 m/s and gradin belts slopes zero, 3, 6 and 9 degree on grading efficiency, by using orange varieties. The main results of this investigation could be summarized as follows:Physical properties Some physical properties were measured or calculated for each variety from a sample to make data base. This data base can be help in designing functional subsystems of grading machine. |
