Abstract Loss of white-matter integrity, as indexed by FA acquired through DTI, is an early feature in preclinical idiopathic cognitive dysfunction. Reduced FA and increased MD/ADC are considered markers of neuronal fiber loss and WM atrophy.1HMRS analysis indicates that metabolic syndrome may cause subtle changes in the metabolic profile of the brain.These subclinical alterations in cerebral metabolism and cerebrovascular reactivity may represent early brain compromise associated with peripheral metabolic disturbances.Decreased NAA/Cr ratio might be indicative of decreased neuronal viability in MS.Increased mI/Cr might be indicative of myelin degeneration in MS.The aim of this work is to evaluate the role of functional neuron imaging in detection of early brain alterations in cognitively normal patients with MS compared with healthy controls and to investigate the association between the metabolic syndrome, and its components with brain metabolite ratios and DTI parameters (fraction anisotropy and apparent diffusion coefficient).This study compromised two groups : group (1) : 46 non-diabetic MS patients with normal cognition (Mini Mental score greater than or equal to 27 points {out of 30}. group (2) : 46 age and sex-matched healthy control subjects with normal cognition, no prior history of medical or psychiatric illness, and no any contraindications to imaging. |
