Abstract Background: Better understanding and adequate assessment of post-operative pain is an important factor for the optimization of recovery after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Objective: This study aims at evaluating and comparing the effectiveness of intra-peritoneal local administration of lidocaine versus nalbuphine after laparoscopic cholecystectomy for post-operative pain relief. Patients& methods: 50 patients with chronic calcularcholecystitis underwent laparoscopic cholecytectomy. These patients were enrolled in study for postoperative pain relief with intraperitoneal administration of lidocaine or nalbuphine. In 25 patients (group A) lidocaine was instilled intraperitoneally after removal of the gallbladder laparoscopically, while in the other 25 patients (group B) nalbuphine was instilled. Patients were observed for abdominal, shoulder pain and heart rate immediately post-operatively, after 1 hour, 6 hours and 24 hours. Results: During the period of one year from January 2015 to December 2015. After approval of ethics committee in the faculty of medicine 50 patients diagnosed with chronic calcular cholecystitis were admitted to the gastro intestinal surgery unit of Alexandria university hospital. Those selected patients were divided in two groups and informed about the procedure, possible complications they might have and about the value of our trial and how to express their pain feeling according to pain scale score sheet.both groups showed postoperative pain relief. |
