Abstract

aim of the present study is to assess the clinical value of the effect of the diode laser (980 nm ) application in the treatment of the hyper pigmentation of the gingival. The used diode laser apparatus is an Italian system called Quanta system laser and its model is ( Quanta C) model, it is class 4 laser and need some precautions during using it . All the precautions of the laser protection must be followed by the operators .and the laser safety officer have to be available during the operation. All the operators and the audiences and the patient must wear the protective goggles of the suitable color for the used wave length . group of fifteen patients males and females suffering from gingival hyperpigmentation in the anterior segment of the mouth with age range from 15-45 years old, and free from any systematic diseases which may affect on healing post operatively, will be included in this study . Patients will be selected randomly from the outpatient clinic of the oral and maxillofacial surgery department. Faculty of oral and dental medicine ,Cairo university. And the operations was done in the out clinic of the national institute of enhanced laser science (NILES). Procedure: Diode laser tip will be held directly in contact with the tissue and will be applied in a continuous mode until the desired depth of tissue is removed. We use topical anesthesia(lignocaine hydrochloride)was applied. A 980-nm diode laser was used at 3 W in a continuously for the procedure. A sweeping motion with the fiber in a contact mode was used to remove the pigmented area. If the patient experienced pain, local anesthesia was administered. The fiber tip was continuously moved across the site to avoid heat accumulation at any one site. Then the area was wiped with a gauze soaked in normal saline. No periodontal dressing was placed. The patients were instructed to take analgesics (ibuprofen 200mg) if they experienced severe pain. No other medications were prescribed.
