Abstract

I- Introduction This chapter includes an overview of previous researches for complexes of hydrazone ligands and their applications
II- Aim of the work The work aimed to prepare and characterize new Schiff base ligand and its metal complexes aiming to study their effects in the treatment of tumor diseases
III- Experimental This chapter contains the chemical and instruments used in
Practical part of thesis as follow:
1) Preparation of the Schiff base ligand and its metal complexes.
2) characterization of the ligand and its complexes using:
 Physical techniques such as molar conductance and magnetic susceptibility
 Elemental analyses (C, H, N and Cl).
 Spectral techniques as IR, UV- Vis., 1HNMR, mass spectra and ESR measurements.
 Thermal techniques as DTA. and TGA
3) Measurement of biological activity
iv. Results and discussion
This chapter includes Spectroscopic (IR,1H-NMR, UV-VIS, Mass and ESR spectra) and elemental studies of the ligand (N’,N’’’E,N’,N’’’E)-N’,N’’’-((4,6-dihydroxy-1,3-phenylene)bis(ethan-1ylidene))bis(2-hydroxybenzohydrazide), (H4L) and its metal complexes were reported. The magnetic properties and thermal analyses (DTA and TGA) were also carried out. The IR spectra of the prepared complexes suggested that, the ligand adopted either a tridentate or a hexadentate fashion, bonding to the metal ion through the azomethine nitrogens and the two phenolic oxygen atoms (OON) or (O4N2). Electronic spectra and magnetic susceptibility measurements revealed an octahedral geometry. The elemental analyses and mass spectral data have justified the ML, ML2 and M2L composition of the complexes. The ESR spectra of copper(II) complexes (2), (5) showed an axial type (dx2-y2) ground state with a covalent bond character and also support the suggested structures of complexes. The cytotoxicity of the ligand and its metal complexes were investigated and discussed.
