Abstract

This study examined the effect of a proposed CALL program in developing EFL Prep. stage students’ vocabulary and grammar learning and their motivation. It adopted the quasi experimental design. The sample consisted of 80 2nd Prep. stage students. The participants were divided into two groups, one control group (taught using the traditional method) and another experimental one (taught using the Hot Potatoes program). The two groups received pre- and post-administration of the study instruments. To fulfill the purpose of the study, the following instruments were designed and used by the researcher: A pre/post vocabulary and grammar achievement test; and a pre/post scale to measure students’ motivation towards learning vocabulary and grammar. The results of the study revealed that: 1- The proposed CALL program “Hot Potatoes” was effective in developing EFL Prep. stage students’ vocabulary and grammar learning and motivation. This can be assured by these points: (a)The experimental group students outperformed the control group students in the post administration of the study instruments, (b)The experimental group students’ mean score in the post -administration of the study instruments were much better than their mean score in the pre- administration of the instruments. Key words: CALL programs, Hot potatoes, Vocabulary, Grammar, Motivation.
