Abstract
Introduction:Prosthetic valve thrombosis is a serious complication of mechanical heart valves which associated with significant morbidities and mortalities. Use of insufficient doses of anticoagulant may be the main predisposing factor to such problem. There is no definite recommendation favor either thrombolytic or surgical treatment in the recent guidelines. So, more researches and studies should be done.Aim of the work:The aim of this work is to Study of the outcome of cases of prosthetic valve thrombosis treated with thrombolytic therapy and those are surgically treated in Cardiology and Cardio-thoracic Surgery in Mansoura University and comparing between mortality and complications of both methods.There are two groups of patient were included in this work:group I: 20 patientswere treated with thrombolytic therapy.group II: 13 patients were treated with valve re-replacement.Results:•No significant difference between both groups in survival and overall complications.•While surgical treatment had slightly higher success rate, it also had slightly higher mortality rate•In haemodynamically unstable patients, the risk for major complications increases to the same extent for both procedures.
