Summary: Guided tissue regeneration is used to act as a barrier membrane for gingival epithelial cells which disrupt the regeneration process of the periodontal tissue, but as a drawback of this technique is isolating the periodontal defect of a good source of nutrients, blood vessel and highly regenerative cells, perforating the barrier membrane would be a good solution to overcome this problem, but on the other hand perforating the membrane could weaken its mechanical properties beside affecting its main function which acting to be a barrier, so the perforation should be with certain standards and pore size to keep the isolation properties and meanwhile don’t deprive the periodontal wound of very good source of regeneration existing in the gingival tissue. The basic principle of this invention is to perforate the guided tissue membrane with ultra-fine pore sizes namely 0.4 and 3 microns, and could prove in vitro the ability of gingival mesenchymal stem cells and media with serum to migrate through this pore sizes, which is a new scientific discovery as it’s never been experimented before the ability of migration of gingival stem cells through pores less than 8 microns. This discovery could be a basis for developing the guided tissue regeneration technique to have a selective barrier membrane by blocking the cells and tissue components which aren’t useful for the regeneration process of the periodontium and allowing only the regenerative components to pass through, and this through adding the suitable chemotactic factors in the periodontal defect for |
