Abstract This work presents experimental investigation on manufacturing a composite pistons from two Aluminum Alloys is : A-alloy A336 (Al-12Si-1Cu-1Mg-2Ni) locally at the piston skirt and B-alloy A242 ( Al- 4Cu-2Ni-1.5Mg ) locally at the piston crown . I.e., each alloy form zone in the piston , within the standard specifications. The effects of various technique parameters are the pouring temperature of the alloys inside the the mold casting, the rotation speed of the mold casting and difference casting methods, which are two methods : Centrifugal and Permanent casting methods. a study The effects of various parameters mentioned above on The mechanical properties , such as hardness and wear, were measured. The results showed that , centrifugal casting process can be used as a new and effective method in manufacturing pistons compared with the Permanent casting process. reasonable parameters were rotation speed mold casting 40 rpm and the pouring temperature alloys 740 C. Average hardness values improved in the two piston zone (skirt ,crown) using centrifugal casting process, increases with increasing rotational speed mold and decreases with increasing pouring temperature in the Both of two casting methods. The maximum hardness value when the skirt piston (126.5 HV) and the maximum hardness value when the crown piston (118.25 HV). Weight Loss ratio improved in the two piston zone (skirt ,crown) using centrifugal casting process, decreases with increasing rotational speed mold and increases with increasing pouring temperature in the Both of two casting methods. minimum Weight Loss value when the skirt piston (0.0081) |
